Becoming unbound, relaxed, is triumph in and of itself. The world pulls at us, reminding us to be worried, reminding of obligation, the things left unfinished. The weight can be unbearably heavy. Until you can catch that moment of awe. That moment when things hold still, and you catch something that holds you transfixed, the other falling away. The strings loosened. This was that moment for me. It was cold, 36 degrees. Sharp air. The ferns hold sway, and the mosses, but the trees themselves are bare. The sun was shining so bright across them, the bird darting about. I only catch a glimpse of Cedar Waxwings occasionally, each time a rare and precious thing. That moment of those winged beauties clearly enjoying the warmth of the sun, winter berries all around shining like jewels in the light, was a moment of awe. A moment to remember wonder and let it hold me for a bit.
